Animal care is an exciting area of work and this course will help your career progression. These are individual VQ units awarded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority aimed at learners interested in animal care.
These units look at maintaining the health and welfare of animals, promotion and maintenance of animal health and well being, maintaining animals in their accommodation, implementing and monitoring plans for animal health. A great way to get qualified while doing something you love.
Please note: Individual units from any SVQ qualification can be undertaken separately.

Mandatory Units:
- Unit CU5 - Develop personal performance and maintain working relationships
- Unit CU34 - Promote and maintain the health and well-being of animals
- Unit CU37 - Establish and maintain animals within their accommodation
- Unit A - Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety (ENTO)
Optional Units: Group A - Animal Care
In addition to the mandatory units, candidates must achieve unit AC3 or CU33 plus six of the
remaining optional units from Group A.
- Unit AC3 - Maintain the cleanliness of the working environment
- Unit AC4 - Provide exercise opportunities for animals
- Unit AC5 - Implement basic animal training programmes
- Unit AC6 - Care for and monitor the behaviour of visitors to sites
- Unit AC7 - Carry out reception duties
- Unit AC8 - Prepare and groom dogs
- Unit AC9 - Prepare and groom animals
- Unit CU7 - Receive, transmit and store information within the workplace
- Unit CU31 - Assist with the movement of animals
- Unit CU33 - Provide feed and water to animals
- Unit CU41 - Handle and care for animals to enable them to work effectively
- Unit CU45 - Control and restrain animals
- Unit B.8 - Keep stock on sale at required levels (DNTO)
- Unit B.11 - Process orders for goods (DNTO)
- Unit B.3 - Receive goods and materials into storage (DNTO)
- Unit C.5 - Provide information and advice to customers (DNTO)
- Unit C.8 - Process payments for purchases (DNTO)
